Live-In Property Caretaker - Greenwich, CT

This is a live-in position and the hours are Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. On the property is a fully renovated two-bedroom, one-bath cottage located above the office, workshop, and two-bay garage.

Saturday and Sunday are the days off, however, the caretaker is required to sleep in the cottage seven days per week.

There will also be a caretaker’s assistant.
**Both employees must speak fluent English and communicate well.

Maintain daily liaison with the estate manager.

There is occasional driving of the employer to downtown Greenwich and her residence in Manhattan. Therefore, the candidate must have a general knowledge of both areas.

Must have handyman knowledge for light repairs: carpentry, electrical, and plumbing. 

This is a hands-on role!

Position Compensation:

Salary: $75K Annually, paid on payroll, DOE, may be negotiable for the right candidate. Plus $10K Annually paid separately for the Dam Readings 
Benefits:
After one year of employment: 2 weeks paid vacation, 5 paid personal days, one week salary as end of year bonus. Salary and benefits are assessed on a yearly basis.

• No health insurance is offered.

Paid Holidays: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas


Responsibilities:

  • Main House
    • Walk through daily to check the furnace, water pipes, run taps, flush toilets
    • Maintain outside grounds:
      • Mow lawn (approximately 30 acres
      • Trim hedges, rhododendrons, flower beds, weeding
      • Driveway and fences
      • Tennis court
      • Vegetable and herb garden, apple peach, and pear orchard
    • Collect mail from the mailbox daily
    • Basement: empty water from the dehumidifier daily (if not twice a day) during the summer months
  • Boathouse
    • Walk through daily to check on furnace, water pipes, run taps, flush toilets
    • Maintain outside grounds:
      • Mow lawn (approximately 3 acres
      • Flower beds, weeding
      • Driveway
      • Sand on the beach
  • Related Responsibilities
    • Removal of garbage from the main house twice daily including on weekends
    • Acquire bids for repair/work to be performed by outside contractors
    • Coordinate and supervise all outside contractor
    • Schedule propane delivery if not on auto-refill
    • Coordinate and supervise daily/weekly projects assigned to the assistant caretaker
    • Prepare monthly expense reports with receipts for the accountant
    • Weekly dam reading and photos to be emailed to the engineering company and others
  • Seasonal Responsibilities
    • Leaf removal at the main house and boathouse
    • Snow removal at both residences
    • Purchase of all annuals and perennials for flower boxes
    • Storing and setting up of all potted plants and potted trees on the terrace
    • Storing and setting up outdoor furniture at the main house terrace, pool, and tennis court
    • Awning on the terrace set up for summer and taken down for winter (schedule with vendor)
    • Cabana change room cover and cabana towel cover to be put on at the pool area
    • Tennis net and Adirondack chairs set up for summer and then stored in winter
    • Pool opened and closed (must schedule with pool service company)
    • Boathouse opened and closed
    • On Fridays during the summer months (Independence Day until after Labor Day) the following work is to be done:
      • Terrace swept clean, all plants, potted trees and hanging flower baskets watered
      • Swimming pool cleaned and heated (coordinate with pool service company)
      • Driveway and tennis court swept clean
Additional Requirements:
  • Experience: 5+ Years of Experience with longevity in your previous roles (3+ years at individual positions)
  • References: Minimum of 3 References
  • Background: Background check upon a contingent offer of hire
  • Personality Traits: Reliable, honest, hard-working, organized, excellent communication skills, flexible, and professional.
