Private family in Northern Westchester County, Ny is seeking a seasoned Property Manager for their 85 acre property.  The position is live-in.

Property Manager

A large property (approximately 85 acres) in Northern Westchester County with a wide variety of native ecosystems, lawns and gardens, a pond, a main house, a guest house and multiple accessory buildings seeks an experienced property manager with knowledge of, and commitment to, sustainable practices.  The position is full time, year-round.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: 
  • Property Manager will report to the Director of Properties but can/will be in direct communication with the Principals and family as needed.
  • Supervise and coordinate all staff and trades involved in caring for the land and buildings (excluding housekeeping). 
  • Review annual contracts and vendor performance for all outsourced trades and services including plant health care, tree care, irrigation, other regular site maintenance teams such as HVAC, plumbing, propane, oil, septic tank, well, irrigation, general contractors, chimney, range hood, masonry, electric, cable, internet, interior designers, cleaners, gravel driveway, gates, fire extinguishers, pest control, security, pool, movers, etc.
  • Prepare annual budgets for staff and contracted work.
  • Perform regular performance reviews with staff.
  • Anticipate, coordinate and oversee implementation of new projects for upgrades, repairs, remediations, renovations, and new construction.
  • Coordinate and supervise property-wide composting and recycling program. 
  • With input from landscape designer, landscape installers, ecological sustainability team and client, plan, supervise and assist in planting and maintenance of new gardens and plantings. 
  • With input from Principal’s family office team, schedule and oversee third party vendors, building maintenance and repairs.
  • Working with the sustainability team, manage invasive plants without herbicides. 
  • Proactively anticipate maintenance and repairs of all infrastructure and systems.  
  • Actively assist gardeners and other team members with gardening and small repairs. 
  • Maintain records of work performed, garden successes and failures from year to year to share with eco-team for planning and improved efficiency and successes. 
Requirements:
  • Extensive knowledge of horticulture, landscaping and ecological land care. 
  • Relevant experience in a similar role of 5 or more years required.
  • Knowledge of, and serious commitment to, nature-based, toxic-free practices
  • A proven passion for the environment and ecological horticulture, in particular.
  • Experience supervising staff and coordinating projects.
  • Reasonable mechanical and carpentry skills for small tasks and supervising large projects. 
  • Terrific organizational skills, attention to detail, thoroughness, people skills
  • Highly motivated and able to work without supervision
  • A can-do attitude, plenty of patience and a positive outlook. 

Compensation will be based on experience and fair market compensation and will include housing on the property.    Health Benefits and 401K provided also.
