House Manager / Family Assistant (Live-Out) – McLean, VA

A warm and busy family in McLean, VA is seeking a proactive, organized, and experienced House Manager/Family Assistant to support the smooth running of their household. This is a long-term, live-out position with a guaranteed 40-hour work week, typically Monday to Friday, 11 AM – 7/7:30 PM, with flexibility and paid overtime when needed. The ideal start date is early August.

Position Highlights:

  • Location: McLean, VA (must be local – no relocation)

  • Compensation: $35–$40/hour + overtime

  • Schedule: 40 hours/week guaranteed; core hours 11 AM–7/7:30 PM, flexibility required on school closures/sick days (9 AM–7 PM)

  • Child: One 10-year-old (rising 5th grader)

  • Start Date: on or before August 8 (overlap with outgoing assistant preferred)

Responsibilities:

  • School pick-up and transportation to afterschool activities (school is within walking distance)

  • Household tidying and upkeep: kitchen, living areas, bedrooms, trash, dishwasher, making beds, refreshing bedside tables

  • Grocery shopping, running errands (returns, dry cleaning), managing vendors

  • Weekly organizational tasks (pantry, mudroom, fridge – typically on Fridays)

  • Light family assistant tasks (lists, household inventory, small projects)

  • Simple, healthy meal prep (protein + veggie focus) – not required but strongly preferred

  • Review and follow daily task list (“blueprint”) provided by the family

  • Send a Sunday night “This Week” email outlining the upcoming schedule

Ideal Candidate:

  • Organized, detail-oriented, and naturally tidy – able to meet high cleanliness standards

  • Proactive, self-directed, and observant – sees what needs to be done and takes initiative

  • Friendly but professional – values boundaries and maintains a calm, low-drama presence

  • Not overly chatty or prone to oversharing – family appreciates quiet competence

  • Flexible on scheduling as needed, especially for snow days or sick days

  • Comfortable coordinating with the current house manager during the transition period
